Mike: How long have you been competing in mixed martial arts competition?

Kalib: Since 1996.

Mike: Do you do anything other than mixed martial arts?

Kalib: I compete in submission grappling tournaments.

Mike: Now, what do you know about the guy that you’re going to be fighting this evening?

Kalib: I know that his name is Gerry Elliot, and he’s from the Kamloops Dog Pound and he’s one hundred and ninety pounds.

Mike: Did you do anything special to train for this fight?

Kalib: Yeah, I trained for a month to fight a different fighter, one that was six feet tall.

Mike: That’s going to be interesting then, do you remember who you fought last?

Kalib: I don’t remember his name, it was at an NFC event in North Vancouver.

Mike: Now, do you do anything different when training in between fights as opposed to training for something upcoming?

Kalib: Yes. Definitely, if I know that I’m going to fight somebody and I have a rough idea of who the person is then I try to train specifically to fight that person. I get as much film footage and information on him as I can and then I try to get ready to fight that one particular person.

Mike: Hmmm, so having a last minute substitution like this then, do you feel that it’ll throw your game off?

Kalib: Well, it’s definitely not the optimal situation. I’d much rather fight the guy I was supposed to fight.

Mike: Yeah, can I ask if you’re a sponsored fighter at this point?

Kalib: I’m sponsored by Titan Fitness.

Mike: Would there be anything else that you’d like to say before I go?

Kalib: No.

*These are the pre-fight interviews, every now and then the Dictaphone I was using would get overwhelmed by background noise and as such I apologize if I’ve missed anything that anybody said, especially concerning names or places. If anything seems out of line the mistake was completely mine and shouldn’t reflect in any way upon the fighters that I interviewed*
